In the brightly lit examination room of the Asian gynecological clinic the patient lies back with her legs raised and spread wide. The medical staff gather closely around the lower half of her body, one of them positioned directly between her open thighs. Gloved hands carefully part the soft outer lips and begin a thorough visual inspection of the smooth pink entrance and the delicate inner folds. After a moment a speculum is slowly inserted and opened, holding the vaginal walls apart so the cervix can be clearly examined under the strong overhead light. The instrument stays in place while the specialist studies the internal area from different angles and makes quiet comments to the assistants standing nearby. Once the visual check is complete the speculum is withdrawn and two fingers slide deep inside for a manual examination, pressing and exploring the sensitive walls. The patient remains still throughout, her private area fully exposed and under continuous attention from the team.
